Tanya had been forced to comply with Leah’s demand and had announced over the loudspeakers that all treatments for the remainder of the day had been cancelled until further notice. There had been a brief pause before Tanya had added that all treatments would either be refunded or rescheduled at the customers’ convenience.

Leah hoped that by doing this, they were limiting the killer’s opportunities to strike. She wanted to leave the spa to go somewhere and accumulate more information on the two victims, but she didn’t dare step outside the premises. For all she knew, the killer could be waiting for exactly that.

Leah could feel the exhaustion starting to creep up on her. She knew she wouldn’t be able to outrun it forever. She just hoped that they would be able to find the killer before fatigue set in.

She’d thought that after putting the Self Killer away, she would have a chance to unwind and focus on the things that mattered. Instead, life seemed determined to trade one stressful scenario for another.

While Tanya was going about cancelling the appointments for the day, Leah made her way back to the control room. There was nothing else to do but wait for the killer to make their next move.

Jonesy was sat there along with Andrew. “How did it go?” Jonesy asked, already anticipating the disappointment.

“It was a false alarm,” she explained with finality, hoping both of them would take that as a sign not to pry any further.

“So, what happens now?” Jonesy asked, wondering if they were exhausting all their options.

“There’s nothing we can do except wait for the killer to make their next move,” Leah answered, slumping into one of the spare chairs.

“You don’t think it’s possible that the killer might have just cut his losses and gone home?” Andrew suggested, pointing to the camera that depicted the car park. “I mean, it’s not as if he’s barricaded in.”

“No, I’m sure he’s still here,” Leah replied quickly, knowing that he had all his victims lined up on a rare occasion. He would likely never have an opportunity like this again.

“Were there any information forms collected on the guests?” Leah asked, hoping to find a clue as to the next victims.

“Not that I can think of,” Andrew started, before quickly adding, “Unless you count the health questionnaires.”

“Jonesy, would it be possible for you to head down to reception and get as many forms as you can find for anybody who is in the spa at present? Especially anyone who has any treatments lined up for today? Given the killer’s sense of poetry, I think it’s safe to assume he’s not going to kill using the safe method twice. So, it may be a gamble on our part, but I think anyone using the sauna or the jacuzzi could possibly be safe.” When Sam didn’t budge, Leah barked, “Well, what are you waiting for, DC Jones? Hop to it.”

Jonesy chafed at the suggestion. He clearly wasn’t fond of being relegated into the role of pencil pusher, but Leah gave him a look that said it wasn’t up for discussion.
